Antepost Yankee

With several good races coming up in the next week or so I thought now was a good time to take a look at the ante-post markets and go for the big hit with a Yankee. A Yankee is a bet consisting of four selections combined in doubles, trebles and fourfold. Therefore we need to get at least two winners but profits can increase quickly multiplied together and you can win a lot of money for a small stake. You can, of course, do a Lucky 15 which includes singles which is another four bets though with just one winner you still won’t make a profit. In my opinion, it is better to save that stake and go for at least two winners.

Here I recommend four horses that should be bet in the next week as a Yankee.

Friday 12th July – Bet365 Trophy – Ben Vrackie

1m 6f handicap in which two horses dominate the betting in Ben Vrackie for Gosden and Secret Advisor for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin. The latter has seen a fair amount of support recently though would need to step up significantly from its seasonal debut in the Duke Of Edinburgh when finishing only 12th. That was its first run for 664 days and prior to that had looked a talented stayer, winning the very competitive Melrose Handicap at York over 1m 6f in 2017. However, it was also hard not to be taken by the seasonal run of Ben Vrackie, also in the Duke Of Edinburgh. That was its first run in 252 days but clearly found the trip on the short side as it was finishing fast and late though just failing to get to the winner, Baghdad. Decent form as a 3yo it looks sure to appreciate stepping back up in trip. As long as the race has had no lasting effect then it will take all the beating I feel.

Saturday 13th July – Bunbury Cup – Spanish City

Often an eyecatcher, I was unconvinced by its drop in trip to 6f when given a lot to do at Epsom before staying on well again here over the shorter trip. 7f is its right trip and in a race where it finished 2nd last year, it looks likely to go close again. Not sold on Kynren who as mentioned in the Hunt Cup has a habit of finding one or two too good and did so again there. Spanish City was runner up in this race last year going down narrowly, I would be concerned by its victor Burnt Sugar in this race who has been unsuited to the soft ground it has been racing on recently but would need the ground to be fast if it was to stand a good chance of winning. It is more one I would rather back when I knew what the ground would be.

Saturday 13th July – Diamond Jubilee Cup Handicap – Mountain Angel

Has really taken its form on to another level this season, culminating in a 5th place finish in the Wolferton. That form has already received a couple of significant boosts as the 2nd Magic Wand filled the same position in the Group 1 Pretty Polly, whilst the third won a listed race at Sandown on Saturday and the 4th finished runner up in a group 2 in Ireland on next start. To me, it suggests that Mountain Angel is thrown in here off a handicap mark of just 106. The biggest worry is that it disappointed at the course at the end of last season but as said, it has really come into its own with another winter to his name and this could be its final step before back in listed company.

Saturday 13th July – July Cup – Dream Of Dreams

The banker of the pack quite possibly. Ran a stormer in the Diamond Jubilee to go down a fast-finishing head having been held up in last position, easily giving Kings Stand winner Blue Point at least 6 or 7 lengths head start. The pair were 2 1/2 lengths ahead of the third Kachy who had attempted to make all. Another that has taken its form to a new level, this is easily the best form on display in this race. Handles any ground, it has an excellent chance. Does have to concede 6lb to the 3yo Advertise, winner of the Commonwealth Cup, however, that was a weak affair with several anticipated opponents missing the race, certainly not matching up to the strength of the Diamond Jubilee. With Cape Byron third in the betting, attempting to win a Group 1 on its first go and straight out of handicap company and Invincible Army held on the Diamond Jubilee form then if getting a run Dream Of Dreams should be winning.

The best odds are:

Ben Vrackie – 5/1
Spanish City – 10/1
Mountain Angel – 8/1
Dream Of Dreams – 4/1

Giving an accumulator of 2969/1. Unfortunately, Bet365 won’t let me place the bet due to restrictions. Therefore, the next best odds can be found with William Hill who go:

Ben Vrackie – 5/1
Spanish City – 9/1
Mountain Angel – 8/1
Dream Of Dreams – 4/1

Just the one price difference but it takes the accumulative odds down to 2699/1. A £1 Yankee costing just £11 will return £4589 if they were all to win! Lets start dreaming now, it may prove very apt that our last selection is Dream Of Dreams!
