Greyhound Maestro – 22nd May

I for one can’t wait for the 2019 Greyhound Derby to start at its new home Nottingham this weekend covered live on RPGTV channel 431 on Sky. Not only are the best UK dogs entered but around 20% of the field have travelled over from Ireland looking to get their hands on the £100,000 first prize.

I have tipped up a finalist in the last two Greyhound Derbys which were staged at Towcester. I put up Tyrur Shea ante post at 40/1 in 2017 to reward subscribers with a 10/1 winner on the place terms of 1/4 odds for making the Final. He was second to 33/1 shot Astute Missile. Then in 2018, looking to go one better I put up Bruisers Bullet at 33/1 but fourth place was the best he could manage, still rewarding subscribers with an 8.33/1 winner for making the final.

It’s not all about Ante Post betting on the Derby, my tips supplied throughout the six rounds and on the final night saw a very healthy profit on both of the last two years. 25 points profit in 2017 and 30 points profit in 2018.

In the next few days you will have full access to my ante post selections for this years Derby and also access to my selections for Friday & Saturdays first round heats.

GM – Ante Post – Greyhound Derby 2019

Already Advised – 6/5/19
Clonbrien Swift 1 point ew @ 50/1 (40/1)
King Lennon 0.75 points ew @ 80/1 (40/1)
Sporting Dave 0.5 point ew @ 100/1 (66/1)

*I sent the above selections out over a fortnight ago to my current subscribers as they were all too big in the market after completing really decent trials at Nottingham. They are all shorter prices now but still worth backing if you are new to my service*

The Derby is a long and difficult competition to win, the winner needs a lot of luck as well as plenty of ability. The dogs in the front end of the market have been well found now.

The reigning champ Dorotas Wildcat has looked as good as he was last year in trials but at 14/1 there is little juice in the price. The same could be said for the runner up Droopys Verve at 18/1.
So I want to look at some runners at bigger odds with a view to landing a decent return if my selection makes the Final, if they win it even better!

I’m only going to add three more to my three selections I have already advised.
That’s a total of eleven points staked so far on my 2019 Derby ante post portfolio.

Skywalker Logan 1.5 points ew @ 25/1 generally
Pat Gulifoyle’s dog has been well found in the market but he’s the one of the top ten or so in the market I want to be with. He’s shortened up recently after a blistering c&d trial, he stays very well having won over six bends and though he isn’t the quickest away he’s not short of early pace. He will be hard to knock out and could go all the way.

Brinkleys Poet 1 point ew @ 40/1 Bet 365
Now with Mark Wallis after having most of his successful career with Matt Dartnall who nursed him back after a long absence with a wrist injury. He’s showing no sign of the wrist bothering him and he’s with the Champion Trainer who uses top physio Ron Mills to keep him 100% sound. He’s improving with each comeback run, showing his class & blistering early pace at Sheffield last Saturday.
He’s in a hard heat Friday with Derby favourite Dorotas Wildcat in it, it’s the last race on the first evening but like a lot of these mere qualification will suffice for Poet.

Bockos Doomie 0.75 ew @ 50/1 Betfair Sports
Last but not least I was really taken by this pup when winning a maiden 515 final at Hove recently in a fast time. He’s since trialled well at Nottingham and has found a relatively easy first round heat. He’s inexperienced but has a great engine and he could well be the dark horse in the Derby. Expertly handled by Patrick Janssen’s and will be another in the care of Ron Mills throughout the competition, he’s worth an interest.
